Scrapbooking On The Road: Disney Mini 2014

Last year, I prepared a mini album ahead of time to take on our Disney trip. I enjoyed the preparation as well as doing a little documenting while we were away, and I loved my finished album.

However, I did find that I didn't keep up with documenting while away once we got about halfway through the trip and we became more tired when we returned to the hotel in the evenings. So for this year's trip, I decided to still prep my album in advance, but I will not be bringing it with me.

Instead, I plan to document my journaling (and my iPhone photos) with the Day One app. I've been using the app for several weeks now and I love the clean look and how it documents your location and even the weather at the time you are writing. I love that I can tag entries too. So I plan to write down little notes and journaling throughout each day and that way it will be easier to write it down when I get home.

Now for my album prep. I'm using this really cool chevron burlap album from Simple Stories.

I've got another full mini album full of page protectors in various orientations (including the Insta Pocket pages, and ones from Becky Higgins and October Afternoon). Plus, I have a bunch of sizes of the photo flips:

I decided to choose the Heidi Swapp Favorite Things Project Life kit as the base of my album. The Stampin' Up! Everyday Adventure Collection seems to match this kit nicely, so I pulled out several cards from that kit that I thought would work too.

I found the 6x6 Favorite Things paper pad at AC Moore for just $2.99, so I grabbed that too. Finally I added a few cards from the Heidi Swapp Gold Foil value kit.

Next I grabbed a TON of alphas and thickers that coordinated:

I knew we had so many different things going on this trip that I would need a lot of titles and subtitles. These alphas are from a variety of companies - Jillibean Soup, Simple Stories, Heidi Swapp, Project Life, American Crafts, and even some from the Target Dollar Spot.

Next came embellishments. I expect to add more than this as I'm putting the album together, but these are what I pulled out while working on the album prep:

Those gold and pink Mickey heads came from the parade last year! I saved a ton of them in various colors and they'll be a great addition to this album. I have some sequins, some of the gold foil embellishments from Heidi Swapp, doilies from Stampin' Up!, and stickers from Simple Stories and the Project Life Everyday Adventure accessory kit. I also grabbed my Project Life overlays.

Since I am not sure what photos I'll have for each day, and I didn't want to do what I did last year and pick out specific page protector sizes ahead of time, I opted to just focus on the title page and title cards for each day as prep work. I decided each day would have the same title page orientation (the one with two 3x4 on top and one 4x6). This made it easy to decide on a 3x4 card for each pocket as the title. I found a sketch from Citrus Twist Kits for a Project Life card layout and used that as a guide.

Each title card looks like this - with initials (or a longer title) for where we are that day. The circle has a date stamp in the center (I have blurred the dates out in the photos).

After I made the individual title cards (12 in all), I went to work on the main title page for the album.

I wanted it to be mostly transparent, so you see the photo underneath (which I anticipate being the obligatory photo in front of the castle). We're doing both Walt Disney World and our first Disney Cruise (which is also my first cruise ever), so I put those initials at the top, with the year at the bottom. I made a sequin pocket by gluing sequins to both sides of a transparency cut to 3x4. I don't sew, so this is a good option for a new-sew sequin pocket.

Finally, I decorated the envelope that comes with the album. I'll use this to hold maps and other memorabilia that won't be included in the pockets:

With that, I'm ready for our trip! I can't wait to put this album together when we get home. I think documenting with Day One will really help me stay on track.
