New Baby Card

A close friend recently had her second baby, a little boy, and I wanted to wish her a congratulations on his arrival. I spotted a cute new baby card in the new Stampin' Up! catalog and used it for inspiration. Mine is a little different but definitely pulls in a lot of the elements included on that card. (Page 80 in the new catalog if you're looking for it).

I'm trying out a new "staging" idea for my card photos. Inspiration for this came from a post by Lime Doodle Design. Not sure I really like what I tried yet. But I love the idea of using some "props" instead of a patterned paper background, so I will keep playing with the set up. In the photo above, I love adding the markers and stamp, but I'm not sure these vases really work. Though I do like something tall in the background.

Anyway, for this card I embossed Stampin' Up! Daffodil Delight card stock with the Decorative Dots embossing folder. I die cut a frame using the Labels Framelits dies, and then a tag using the new Project Life dies. The baby stamp came from a retired set, Baby Firsts, and then the Congratulations stamp is from Memory Box.

I stamped my sentiment in Memento's London Fog, and then colored in the baby with Copic markers E21, B23, G21, and YG11. I'm not a professional Copic artist at all - I just use what I have, which is a set of 72 markers. Someday maybe I'll expand the set but I don't find I use them enough to justify the cost of more. They do the job when I need to color in an image.

I used the Stampin' Up! banner punch to punch 3 little banners and layer them under the sentiment tag. I added a little heart that actually was leftover from a Silhouette cut. I saved the hearts from when I cut a bunch of the original images because I thought they'd be cute embellishments.

I love making cards and really need to find more time to make them. I find I'm always making ones for friends at the last minute. I'd love to build up a stash so I don't have to stress when it comes time for someone's birthday or special occasion. Maybe someday!
