Birthday Card for Summer

My stepdaughter, Summer, turned 17 last week, so I thought I'd make her a card for her birthday. She's a musician, and just got back from the Berklee College 5 Week Summer Program. She plays guitar, piano, and the drums regularly, and she's taught herself the trumpet (based on her knowledge of the baritone horn which she played in school). She even does vocal!

Anyway, I thought a music themed card would be perfect. I had a DCWV paper stack called The Rockstar Mat Stack, which I used for much of the card. It's full of black, silver, pink, brown, purple, and green, perfect colors for a rocker! Summer does more rock music than anything else. She has been attending the School of Rock for the past 3 or 4 years and so she is comfortable with rock. In fact, she auditioned for a scholarship for Berklee by playing Metallica's Fade to Black on the piano.

All that being said, the "You Rock" wood embellishment that I picked up as part of a pack from Recollections at Michaels was the perfect focal point for this card. I didn't want it to be a wood facing though, so I inked it up with Versamark and used silver embossing powder. I did the ink/powder/heat emboss process twice for a smoother, thicker finish. I love how it turned out!

On the inside of the card, I used the Amy Tangerine Document wood alpha stamps. I LOVE these stamps!

Perfect card for a 17 year old "rock star!" :)

  1. LOVE it! I remember that stack, I think I donated what I hadn't used awhile back. Love what you did with the veneer!
