A Tough Decision

Friends and readers here, I've been debating something for the past several months with myself, and I've come to a rather tough decision:

I'll be ending my weekly Friday freebies.

What exactly does this mean?

It means that I will now be providing a more substantial freebie each month, on the 1st. Right now, I'm thinking of coordinating sets of items, a "mini kit" of sorts. For example, journaling cards, brushes, PNG cut files, labels, that all tie in together in a theme.

It means I will still, occasionally, randomly, provide freebies on this blog that are not part of the monthly ones. Rather than hold items until Friday, I'll release them when I want to. Whatever day of the week that may be.

It also means I will be linking up to the freebies other blogs are giving away more often.

Why am I ending the weekly freebies?

Several reasons. The biggest one is that it is becoming far too hard for me to come up with a great free download every single week that is up to par with the previous ones. I do NOT want to insult readers here by putting up, say, one journaling card to print so that I can keep up each week. And I've found that doing this each week means that half of my week ends up focused on Friday's post. My Thursday nights (if not earlier in the week) are spent designing and posting this. I rarely have time to print and show my freebies in use.

Designing is fun. I have loads of ideas that I want to create. But large sets take time, and lots of work, and then they become hard to simply give away every week. I never want to be the person who puts freebies up for a limited time, then starts charging for them. I LIKE giving you guys things to use in your albums or everyday life.

I also have so many other projects I want to be doing and working on in the few hours I have each week (for those of you who may not know, I do work a full time job outside of the home). The weekly freebies are actually impacting my ability to work on those projects.

I love my readers, and this decision was not made lightly. I am very encouraged by the wonderful comments a few of you left on my Facebook page last week telling me to "take the week off" when I asked what you'd like to see for freebies. Your appreciation for my work means the world to me. Which is why I must say again, I do not want to give lesser quality freebies to you just to "keep up."

Today is my last Freebie Friday. Please watch for the very first of my new monthly freebies on May 1st. I do hope you'll all stick around.

  1. Don't feel bad. It is wonderful that you post any freebies at all. I am always grateful for a freebie, but you shouldn't feel pressured to keep up with a schedule after all you are being more than generous to give away any of your designs. Enjoy making the kits/cards etc and I look forward to seeing the results whenever you are ready :)

  2. Ohh gosh Melissa, this is supposed to be a 'fun' endeavor not a chore. I truly appreciate the freebies but more importantly, I appreciate the tips, the examples, and the marvelously fresh ideas you share in your posts. I was a very very timid memory keeper - afraid to start for fear of messing up. Because of your delightful posts, I started a 2013 project life album. I'm not up-to-last-week current, but I'm happy with what I've accomplished - your words and designs encouraged me to try. Freebies come and go, but sharing your gift - that's priceless!

  3. Ditto to previous comments. I can't imagine that anyone would be upset with you or not stick around because of your choice to end the Friday freebies. I have learned much from you so far, your tutorials are awesome and I, like many others, greatly appreciate your time and generosity.
    Have a WONDERFUL weekend!

  7. Melissa, thank you so much for sharing what you have so far this year. Looking forward to seeing the new monthly kits. Couldn't agree more with KellyRae, I've not started this year yet except for taking hundreds of photos, I know that by using the freebies you've already shared and the ones to come as well as others across the blog world that I'll be able to get caught up!

    1. Thank you! I'm actually excited about the new monthly freebies. I think it's going to be so much better/more useful to have items that coordinate with each other or can be used nicely with each other. My big struggle with the weekly freebies was making everything so different from previous ones, so I ended up with plenty of freebies, but many things didn't really "match."

  9. Melissa - I already sent you an email a few weeks ago saying how much I appreciate all your freebies. And I have to say my first PL album would look very different if it wasn't for your beautiful freebies. I use at least two of them on every spread. Your generosity is tremendous and I think you've put enough freebies out there already to last a lifetime. You need to focus on you and your family first and foremost. I will always continue to look to you for inspiration, freebies or not. :)

  10. I'm just now getting caught up on your blog (March has been a busy busy month for me) and am sad to say goodbye to Friday Freebies but I understand. I have enjoyed what you have shared with us and have used many of your creations. You are very generous and I appreciate it very much. I can't wait to see what you have in store for us May 1st. Your family must always come first. I will, of course, continue to read your blog. :-)
