Daycare Valentines

This is the first year Austin will be celebrating Valentine's Day with his daycare class (last year he only attended 1 day a week). I set about making some sort of toddler safe Valentine gift for his classmates. Didn't want to do candy, too many allergy or choking risks, and didn't want to do those foam stickers, they say ages 3 and up and while I'd let Austin play with them, I didn't want to piss off any parents.

Enter Jo-Ann Fabrics. They had adorable little red & pink rubber ducky sets in the Valentine's section. I bought all that they had, 9 sets, which turned out to be precisely the number I needed.

I had the little drawstring bags at home to put the duckies in already, so I just needed to make a tag for each bag. I gathered some supplies:

That's American Crafts Hip Hip Hooray paper, Stampin' Up!'s Hearts A Flutter Framelits, the American Crafts With Love date stamp, a Sizzix tag die, Memento Tuxedo Black ink, a Sharpie pen, and scissors. Not shown is my Big Shot machine.

I started by running the heart framelit through my Big Shot with a sheet from the AC paper stack.

I also ran this Sizzix die through with Kraft card stock, using the medium tag shape. (I just cut smaller pieces of the card stock so I didn't waste it).

With the tag cut out, I stamped the phrase I wanted to use first, in case I screwed up:

I deliberately put it off to the side so that I didn't have to worry about perfectly lining it up.

Then I added the heart to the tag with some ATG adhesive.

Finally, I took the Sharpie pen and drew little stitches around the heart. Doubled those up, too, for a rough kind of look (again, in case I made a mistake!).

I love how simple and cute these are!

Happy Valentine's Day everyone!
