Big Boy Bed!

Last week, a couple of times, Brad had noticed Austin with his leg up on the crib rail. Saturday, I was watching him on the monitor, and he lifted his leg up. Before I could even sit up, he had half his body over the rail. I screamed "AUSTIN NO!" and ran down the hallway. He had thankfully heard me and got back into the crib, and he was completely startled and upset because I had yelled. I was blessed with a climber. This guy gets to daycare and the first thing he does is climb on the table, or the kitchen set, or the book shelves. At home he gets up on the chairs and the sofa and anything else he can step on.

So at just 22 months old, we're into a toddler bed.

Apologies for the terrible iPhone pics.

I was really nervous because there's only this short piece of rail to keep him in the bed, but he did perfect both nights this weekend! He got into bed and didn't get out, and slept all night. Both mornings he just lay there until one of us came in to give him his milk cup. He's climbing in and out without a problem. I did put some pillows along the floor where the open part is, and yesterday after nap he rolled off the bed but he was fine. Just got right back up and crawled right back into bed.

Phew! So glad the transition went well :) But where did my baby boy go? He's growing way too fast! Someone please slow down the clock!

  1. Aww the big boy bed! We were blessed with a climber too! Ruby was either 16 or 18 months (I'd have to look it up) when she did that very thing. I peeked in after nap and said I'll be right in and get you out Ruby... I felt the floor rumble...and looked in at her standing next to her crib...AHHH I was so thankful she wasn't hurt! and sad at the loss of containment.

    1. Haha, yes it was so nice to stick him in the crib when I was showering or something. Though we ended up putting a baby gate across his doorway, and we anchored or moved out everything in his room that could potentially hurt him, so I feel safe leaving him the room to play now.

  2. We did the baby gate door thing too! It just came off last week, and Ruby is going to be 3 in June. She could totally climb over it too, but for some reason doesn't. I dunno why, but who cares...it works! :D

Now she's asked for "no gate!" so she knows that if she stays in her room, we will leave it off. Wow...we've hit the milestone of containment by will, rather than physical barrier.

Ohhh..but.. watch for clothing and closets being completely emptied onto the floor...lol.. I bought latches to keep everything contained.

    1. Oh yeah, way ahead of you there :) We added locks to the drawers and the closet so he couldn't get into them. Not so much that I thought he'd pull things out but I was worried he would pull out a drawer and it would somehow fall on him, or perhaps he'd try to climb in them.
