100 Cards in 100 Days: Day 26

I picked up an intricate Memory Box die a few months ago that I never got a chance to try. Last week I tried using it and was having some major trouble. This die and I do not get along. It took me about a half hour to get two of the shapes cut properly for this card.

The issue I'm having is that the die just won't cut through. It's one of the thin metal dies, similar to a Spellbinders Nestie, but it just doesn't work as well. I ended up running it through my machine four times, upside down and right side up, with a card board shim and some spot shimming, and then I had to use my craft knife to cut what didn't punch out (which was more than half of the shape). Not fun.

I did read that there is a metal plate shim that you can get that's supposed to help but I'm hoping I can figure it out without having to buy something else. Kind of annoyed that this die sucks so bad. I haven't tried my other memory box dies yet, but I definitely will not buy more of them (even though they are gorgeous) until I make sure mine work well enough.

  1. Just a tip...I've learned over the years that my maching isn't as tight as it used to be so that might be part of your trouble. I have the metal shim and it really helps with intricate dies like this one!

    1. Thanks. I'm thinking I might need to replace the two plates I use the most for my machine - they've bowed after so much use, so maybe they're not getting the right pressure. I'll also consider the metal shim but I didn't find it on amazon and really don't want to have to pay shipping from an external site if I can avoid it. This is the only die I've ever had a problem with!
