I dropped my iPhone in the toilet. :(
Only for about 3 seconds before I plunged my hand in to retrieve it but the damage was done. Stuck it in rice, then headed to Michaels and bought silica gel.
I put it in silica gel for about 7 hours, then Brad took the back off (funny, he happened to have the tool because he's currently trying to replace Summer's cracked screen). I used the cold setting on my hair dryer for a good 15 minutes, and then we attempted to plug it in. It DID power up, but couldn't find a voice signal and wouldn't stay powered when unplugged.
So it's off again and sitting back in the silica gel overnight. I realllllllly hope it dries out.
What's the worst case scenario? I get a new phone, and the only real loss would be a few photos that I don't have on my computer, too. Apps can be re-downloaded, contacts are saved in gmail. But dang, this sure sucks. Especially since a new iPhone is, you know, hella expensive.
Anyone who has successfully dried out their iPhones, I'd love some happy endings, please!
UPDATE: No luck this morning. It won't stay powered up. I did manage to get yesterday's few pictures transferred to the computer during the few minutes it would stay on, but I can't get it to stay on long enough for a backup and restore. I have ordered a new battery from Amazon with 1 day shipping, and keeping the phone in silica gel until I get the battery pack. :( So bummed.
Get this case if you buy another one Lifeproof.com
ReplyDeleteCheaper than a new phone :-)
I did the same thing, took it away to be dried out & fixed, worked but was really slow after.
ReplyDeleteOh no! yuck! I hope the little guy pulls through!
ReplyDeleteThat stinks! I think I would be curled up in the fetal position if that happened to me... I have heard that putting your phone in a bag of rice helps absorb the moisture. I have never tried it but might be worth a try!?!
ReplyDeleteMy friend did the same thing! She put hers in a bag of rice. (I'm not sure for how long, probably a day.) It actually worked! After that, I went out and bought a lifeproof case. I just didn't want to have the same thing happen to me! Good luck!
ReplyDeleteI saw the update post before seeing this one, so...
ReplyDelete(1) Glad to know you got a new phone! :)
(2) That "help me!" image is HILARIOUS.
