Austin's First Birthday Party

This past Saturday we held Austin's first birthday party with lots of family and friends. (Not that you'd know it from my pictures - I didn't take ANY party candids). I took lots of photos of my decorations though!

On our mantel I placed several framed photos of Austin (a few I ran off last minute - yay for CVS one hour photo). I also included a balloon of each color, a handmade "Austin" banner (made using my Slice machine), and a free printable that I changed the color of in Photoshop Elements.

A "Happy Birthday" banner, also made with my Slice machine.

Wall art, featuring this free printable that I changed the color of in PSE. The bottom frame is full of hand punched trains, using a Martha Stewart border punch. The top are border pieces from an Americana kit I picked up last year (the same kit where the papers for the banners came from).

Our cupcake table. I used the Americana papers to make little cupcake flags. To do this, cut a piece of paper 3" by 3/4", fold in half and cut into a triangle, then place some glue or adhesive inside, and wrap around a toothpick. I then stamped "happy" on one side and "one" on the other of each flag.

My sister made the cupcakes. I'm not sure where the 1 candle came from.

Handmade custom M&M favors. I used a Sizzix die and punched out the boxes and Brad and I carefully folded all 40 of them and stuck them together. I stamped little cupcakes and hand colored and cut each one, then attached to the boxes. Filled with a dozen Austin M&M's and tied up with a coordinating ribbon. These took me the longest - I'd say all together, 5 or 6 hours worth of work. But they looked SO cute :)

My mom made Austin an adorable hat to wear while having his cupcake. I'd seen similar ones on Etsy for $30-$35 and I was trying to cut as many unnecessary costs as I could. My mom, being the experienced seamstress she is, happily made up a cute hat for him, along with a matching bib:

Too bad Austin didn't really enjoy sitting in the hat and having everyone sing him Happy Birthday:

Not to worry - I was smart and took a few smiling photos before everyone showed up:

See? Totally calm and happy baby. I think all the people just overwhelmed him. And then, of course, he fell asleep on my mom's shoulder and was NOT pleased we woke him up to do the cupcakes.

Oh, and one last thing, I tried out this pin I'd seen weeks ago, and I think it ended up looking fantastic. (Disclosure - my sister actually cut the veggies and arranged the platter, so I don't really deserve any credit for this one).

That's it! Hope you enjoyed my photos, and for those of you who were at the party, Brad and I (and Austin) thank you all SO much for coming and helping us celebrate.

Woops! Forgot one:

These were some "streamers" I'd made using the Slice machine. The idea for these came from this pin.

  2. Oh, Melissa, these are beautiful. And I love that shot of Austin, even if he's not terribly happy. ;)

Wish we could have joined in, but I was thinking of you guys! Happy birthday, Austin!!
