I believe my uncles are splitting this camera as a gift for me for Christmas this year, and I'm super excited about it. It's a few models updated from the one my uncle has, which I've tried out a bit, and for a non DSLR camera, it's pretty fantastic.

It's the Fujifilm FinePix S1800. One of the most useful features it has is a "super macro" mode, which I've compared to the regular macro mode on my Casio, and it's insane how close and detailed and clear the closeups are. That will be perfect for jewelry photos. There's also a panoramic feature, which I'm excited about.

The price is awesome - right now it's going for under $160 on Amazon, and will probably drop even more (the price has dropped $40 in 3 months), which is perfect for them to give me as a gift and I won't have to feel like they're going overboard, as my uncles tend to do during the holidays.

Today I found an adapter that will let me use a polarized filter with it as well, which I totally want to try out after watching another episode of Whole Picture this week discussing shooting moving water.

I can't wait, because I'll have it for our Disney trip, and the new baby. I am not going to be able to afford a DSLR camera for several years, and I think this is the perfect compromise! :) It has received really great reviews.

EDIT: These are customer images taken with the S1800. Many of them are just amazing, for a non DSLR camera. Sooooo much better than my Casio.
